Trobriand Cricket

Although now over three decades old, Trobriand Cricket is one of the most influential ethnographic films of the post-war period (it even has its own – minimalist – Wikipedia page). ‘The film demonstrates how, over 70 years, Trobrianders have ingeniously adapted the missionary-introduced sport of cricket to the needs of their society, and how this elaborate new ritual has functioned to soften the impact of colonialism’ (taken from the publicity blurb).
