Read the 2025 edition of JASO
The Journal of the Anthropological Society of Oxford
This new edition reflects the diversity of contemporary anthropology and the methodological and ethnographic breadth that so characterises JASO.
Since its inception in the early 1970's JASO has established its own experimental and intellectually curious approach. This edition of JASO demonstrates that approach beautifully. The articles explores themes from collaborative publishing, kinship and belonging in Eastern China to precolonial ceramics at the Pitt Rivers Museum. There's perspectives on sacred landscapes in Siberia, sensory practices in movement and music therapy, and racial dynamics and belief in the Parisian banlieues.
There's also a range of book reviews including contributions from within the community at the School of Anthropology and Museum Ethnography.
This edition is the first published on the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform, part of a Bodleian Libraries initiative to support small journals across Oxford University. As part of this JASO is now included in the Oxford Research Archive (ORA), ensuring a secure digital future for all JASO publications. JASO articles now have DOI (Digital Object Identifier) reference numbers and JASO has recently been included in the SCOPUS index. This will enhance the journal’s visibility and increase the discoverability of our authors’ work.
Huge thanks go to all the contributors involved in the production of 2025's edition of the Journal of the Anthropological Society of Oxford.
