Visitors

Japanese House

We welcome applications from scholars from institutions abroad or from elsewhere in the UK who wish to pursue anthropological research at Oxford. Visiting Scholars and Visiting Research Students work on their own research projects, but are expected to participate in the wide variety of lectures and seminars available in the University. Visitors are externally funded or self-funded.

Before applying you must establish a link person at the School who will support your visit. Contact a member of Academic Staff with a cv, a brief description of your work, and your plans. Then submit the application to the School, which will approve your visit if it can be accommodated. The decision of the School is final. If your application has a funding application deadline, the School requires a minimum of four weeks notice.

Visit periods can last from one term through to one year, dependent on visas, and applications are welcomed all year round. There is a fee of £2,000 per term if a desk and facilities are required (£150 per term if no facilities are required). See University of Oxford term dates. Visiting Scholars are expected to make their own visa applications in advance. Please note that Visiting Students requiring a visa should apply as a Recognised Student.
